Bensenville gives us a real mix. Close to the original downtown there is genuinely old housing, including brick two-flats and prewar single-family homes with limestone details. Further out it is mostly postwar ranches.
The older buildings near downtown are where we see the most lintel work. Steel angles over windows on prewar and early postwar buildings were often painted steel with no flashing above them, which means water sits on the steel, the steel rusts, and rusting steel expands with enough force to lift the brick course above it. The tell is a rust stain running down from the corner of a window and a horizontal crack along the joint just above it.
On the postwar stock it is more straightforward: mortar that has reached its age, chimneys that need crowns, and caulking around aluminum-framed windows that went hard years ago.

Common questions
Does being close to O'Hare affect masonry?
Not in any way that changes the repair. Ordinary weather and water are what cause mortar to fail here as everywhere else.
Do you work on two-flats and small multifamily buildings?
Yes, regularly. Bensenville has a good number of them near downtown and they often need lintel work along with repointing.
