Elk Grove Village was built as a planned community, largely through the 1960s, and it shows in the masonry. Whole sections went up within two or three years of each other, so when the mortar reaches the end of its life it does so across an entire street at roughly the same time.
The residential work is consistent: brick ranches and split-levels, sixty-odd years old, with repointing due on the weather elevations, chimney crowns that were thin mortar washes and have long since cracked, and original steel lintels above the front windows that have started to rust and lift the brick.
The other half of Elk Grove Village is one of the largest industrial parks in the country, and we do a good deal of commercial work there. Commercial masonry has its own priorities: control joint sealant, lintel replacement, and repointing on elevations that get wind-driven rain. On a large building the cost is driven as much by lift and access as by the masonry itself, which is why it is worth bundling the repointing, lintels and caulking into one mobilization rather than three.

Common questions
Do you do commercial tuckpointing in the industrial park?
Yes. We handle tuckpointing, lintel replacement, control joint caulking and masonry repair on commercial and industrial buildings.
Why do whole streets here need tuckpointing at once?
Elk Grove Village was built in planned phases, so an entire section often went up within two or three years and reaches the same point together.
